Autumn 2025 Festival

Woodsmoke Lodge No.9317 is hosting the 2025 Kindred Lodges Association Autumn Festival at The Masonic Hall, Mirfield, West Yorkshire on Saturday, 11th October 2025

Including ‘Scouting in WW2’ a presentation by Colin Walker, Scout Historian and Remembering the 80th anniversary of VE/VJ day. The day will have a WW2 theme and there will be plenty for visitors to look forward to apart from the talk

  • Displays from the West Yorkshire Scout Archive
  • Displays from the Little Gem Scout Museum, W. Lancs
  • Display about the Scout International Relief Service…a little-known unit of the Allied Forces in WW2

All members of the Kindred Lodges Association and individual members of the K.L.A. are cordially invited to attend the Festival, together with other Freemasons who may have a particular interest or connection with Scouting, B.B. or other Youth Organisations.

Other than routine business there will be a talk by Colin Walker, Scout Historian, on Scouting in WW2. Colin will be joining us to dine and will be happy to talk about any aspects of Scouting History. He will also have copies of his publications with him for sale (cash or cheque).

Woodsmoke October 2025 Summons

For brethren staying over for the weekend in West Yorkshire
 
We have made arrangements for brethren to visit two wonderful displays of Scouting memorabilia on Sunday 12th October if they wish to do so.
 
On the morning of Sunday 12th October, The Little Gem Scout Museum will be opened for any brethren attending the KLA festival. It is just over an hours drive from the lodge in Lancashire. Details will be available on the Saturday. The address is: Waddecar Scout Campsite, Snape Rake Lane, Preston, PR3 2EU. Free entry.
 
Alternatively if brethren do not wish to travel so far, the West Yorkshire Scout Archives will be open on Sunday morning as well. It is a smaller display of Scouting history but still very interesting. 10 minutes from the lodge buildings at Bradley Wood Scout Campsite, Shepherd’s Thorn Lane, Brighouse, HD6 3TU. £2 entry charge.
Timetable for the day

10:00 – Lodge open for Masons and their guests to arrive 

10:30 – Meeting for The Lodge of Unity Peace & Concord No. 316 

11:30 – KLA Committee Meeting for Committee Members and Lodge Representatives 

12:30 Lunch – please provide your own, use local facilities all within 5 mins of the lodge, or provided for attendees who have pre-booked 

14:00 – Lodge Meeting of Woodsmoke Lodge No 9317 – see separate summons (Masons only), followed by a talk on Scouting in WW2 presented by Colin Walker, Scout Historian – open to all Masons and guests 

16:00 – White Table – open to all Masons and guests 

18:00 (approx.) End of Proceedings 

Dress

Uniform of their Youth Organisation. Grand & Provincial Grand Officers should wear Full Dress Regalia. Dark suit and black tie if you don’t wear uniform.

 If you are not brining lunch and do not want to book something in the lodge rooms, there are a number of café’s etc in Mirfield all 5 mins or less from the lodge rooms

Accommodation

 If visitors are planning to stay overnight, there are several options within 10 mins drive of Mirfield. 

  • Premier Inn Huddersfield North*
  • Holiday Inn Brighouse
  • Bert’s Rooms at The Blackhorse Inn
  • Travelodge Hotels Mirfield
  • Mirfield Monastery B&B (if you want a single room and a different experience!!) 

*If Brethren are travelling and staying at the Premier Inn Huddersfield North (M62 J25) they must be careful with the parking. The carpark is owned by a separate company and while it is free for hotel guests, it has come to light that cars have not been regsitered properly by the hotel/guests and fines of £100 a day have been issued very regularly.

Getting to the Lodge and Parking

By Road 

M62 Junction 25 (Brighouse/Mirfield), follow A644 to Mirfield. 

By Train 

Mirfield Station is less than 10 mins walk from the lodge rooms. There are trains direct to Mirfield from Huddersfield and Leeds. 

Parking in Mirfield 

Parking at the lodge rooms is VERY RESTRICTED/LIMITED but there is plenty of parking in Mirfield within 5 mins of the lodge. Please DO NOT park on King Street – residents only. Station Road has a lot of on road free parking at weekends. There is a carpark behind the library, off Station Road. This is chargeable (£6.50 for the day incl. Saturday – pay and display by card, and RingGo on your phone (map below).
